Personal Coaching

At JS-International we conduct personal coaching in two different ways to assist people in their endeavour to achieve personal transformations:

1. 121 Coaching, which is conducted either face-face-face or by telephone and is designed to help people on an incremental, regular basis.

2. Breakthrough Sessions, which are intensive face-to-face coaching sessions designed to support people with more in-depth solutions. Normally these sessions are once-off and of about 6 hours duration.

There has been an explosion of Coaches and Coaching Services on the market and also much confusion about what coaching is all about, especially in the international arena. We would first like to clarify what we mean by coaching and then give you some insights about what the benefits of having coaching might be for you and/or your organisation.

What coaching is all about

Tim Gallwey is largely credited with bringing coaching into the arena of business life. He started as a tennis coach and wrote a book called the "Inner Game of Tennis". He subsequently wrote The Inner Game of Golf and The Inner Game of Work. All of his books are extremely readable and useful. His definition of coaching embraces the empowering concept of teaching people to learn, rather than just simply teaching them. This philosophy is also encapsulated in a much older saying:

Give people a fish and you feed them for a day.
Teach them to fish and you feed them for life.

Our Coaching Practice at JS-International follows this philosophy.

We have an unshakeable belief in the potential of the individual and their capability to determine the solution for the themselves. This is a generative, rather than remedial, approach to coaching. It is not only empowering, it is quicker and more effective . It also means that the individual will be more committed to the solution, rather than one that is suggested or imposed by someone.

We believe that you take your whole self to work. As such we do not simply call ourselves "Performance Coaches", focusing only on issues that affect work performance. We take a much more holistic or systemic view,. We take into account that the factors that may be affecting someone's performance at work could be at many levels such as; the environment, the coachee's behaviour or that of others, their knowledge and skills, beliefs and values or even their concept of their own identity.

Although coaching principally involves advanced listening and questioning skills on behalf of the Coach, we also draw on a range of powerful and potent NLP techniques. (Please see separate section on NLP in our website so that you understand the benefits that these techniques can bring).

How it works in practise

121 Coaching can take place on a face-to-face basis or by telephone.
Once you have decided that you would like coaching as part of your personal development, your firstly select a Personal Coach. This would involve contact with the Coach either face-to-face or by telephone. (A review of the Coach's resume would preceed this contact).

Once you have determined who you would feel comfortable working with there follows a "contracting session". This session, again, can be conducted face to face or by telephone. You agree aims/outcomes and measures of success. The contracting session normally involves a lot of questions from the Coach about your background and personal needs and could involve some personal diagnostics. You then contract for a specified number of sessions (normally up to 6). You also agree what and whose responsibility it is to report back to the sponsoring organisation (if an employer is paying) in terms of aims or outcomes. This may not be necessary and your Coach will be contracted to provide this service to you on a confidential basis. Your Coach will also ask for ongoing feedback from you about the coaching he/she is provided to ensure that he/she is continuing to add value.

At the point of the last contractually agreed session you and your Coach review progress against aims/outcomes and measures. You then agree further action or coaching as required.

The Breakthrough sessions operate differently. If you require a Breakthrough Session or are interested in using this technique to help you resolve your issue(s), we will firstly discuss your needs by telephone or in person. Once we have concluded together that a Breakthrough Session would be best for you, we send you questions that you need to answer and send back to us before the Session starts. The session itself is extremely intensive and normally lasts for about 6 hours. We agree with you your desired outcomes at the beginning and test that you have achieved these at the end. The technologies and techniques that we use are very advanced and in-depth and these sessions are not for the feint-hearted!

The benefits that you will get from coaching
