Engaging a coach
Firstly you may want to prepare yourself and ask questions of
the prospective Coach:
Questions you may want to ask the
coach:
- What training/experience have you had?
- What is your policy/philosophy on coaching?
- What is important to you as a coach?
- What ground-rules might be important?
- What is your policy on confidentiality?
- How do you handle the prospect of managing
both me as the client and the organisation who is paying the bill? (If relevant)
- How do you measure success?
- What is the process? What might a typical
session be?
- What is your view on missed calls/meetings
that have to be re-scheduled?
- What are the costs?
- What results have you achieved? (Examples
in confidence)
- Also ask for references
Questions you may want to ask yourself:
- Do I want to commit to making changes
in my life?
- Why?
- What would the benefits be?
- What sort of coach do I want?
- What style of coaching would suit me?
- How will I know that the coach is the
right one for me?
- How will I measure success?
- What are my objectives? (this may be
difficult to answer initially and may change through the process)
- What is important to me for the coaching?
After talking to the coach:
- Do I feel very confident about this
coach's abilities?
- Is this the right coach for me? Are
we a good fit?
- Do I want to speak with the coach's
references?
Thinking about coaching at an organisational level:
- Is coaching the most appropriate way
to develop the individual?
- What else would work?
- Why is coaching right for this individual?
- What might the business benefits be?
- How will the stakeholders measure success?
- How will all the stakeholders work together
to ensure that success is sustainable?
- How will you select a Coach or Coaches?
Secondly, if you are considering 121 Coaching or a Breakthrough
session, either:
- For yourself, or
- As part of a process for the selection
of coaches for a strategic coaching pool for an organisation, or
- For the selection of a coach for a particular
executive who needs coaching,
Please call us or contact us and we will be pleased to discuss
your needs with you.
